Being there for the client in good times and bad times

I think it's splendid to make the client's ambitions come true. That means that you have to be there for the client, in good times and bad times. You have to sympathise and assist with advice, also during hard times. Then together you can be pleased about find a way out together. That's why I always aim for long-term relationships.

From education to a career

I was born on December 8, 1960 in 's-Hertogenbosch. After my pre-university (VWO) studies (gymnasium-beta) I studied Fiscal Law in Tilburg. Afterwards I followed a course for tax inspectors. I worked five years for the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration in Zutphen and Arnhem, and for the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration for Large Enterprises in Utrecht. Yet I consciously opted for a job with more client contact. Since 1 February 1992 I work at CROP chartered accountants and CROP tax consultants and I am a member of the partnership since January 1995. When I first arrived, I worked together with 8 colleagues, now there are 46. I am quite proud of this. We have achieved this based on the involvement, client-friendliness and a very good team. The human angle, pleasure and result… this is the combination that characterises CROP.

My motive: contribute proactively to the future of the client

In my previous job as a tax consultant I always looked at the past. The wonderful thing about my function in CROP is that I work together with the clients to contribute proactively to the ambition of the client. As a tax consultant I have direct influence on ups and downs of a company, and therefore on its future. The nice thing is that you also build up a relationship with the managing director/major shareholder as a businessman. I'm positioned close to the entrepreneur, just like the business owner stands close to his company. We are both business people and therefore understand each other well. Something surprising about myself? I have always found the dredging industry fascinating. My parents used to always say: That's OK as long as you become a dredging manager. The nice thing is that at the present time I have a number of clients from that industry. Together with the chartered accountants and corporate law consultants of CROP, I am able to provide them with international advice.
